Dark vintage hotel room at night

Location Index — The Crescent Hotel

Room 218

Documented 2024

Room 218 sits on the second floor of the Crescent Hotel, overlooking the grounds that once served as the campus of the Crescent College and Conservatory for Young Women. Of all the rooms in the building, 218 draws the most consistent reports of a male presence — described by guests as a tall figure standing near the window or at the foot of the bed.

The identity of this presence has never been confirmed. Some investigators have speculated a connection to the hotel's darker chapter as a fraudulent cancer hospital under Dr. Norman Baker in the 1930s, when the building housed patients who never left. Others believe the figure predates that era entirely, tied instead to the college years when the hotel served a different kind of institution.

He was standing at the window when I woke up. Just standing there, looking out. When I turned on the light, he was gone.

— Guest account, Room 218, 2023

Multiple guests have reported objects moved overnight — personal items relocated from nightstands, luggage shifted, drawers found open. One account describes a watch placed on the dresser found on the bathroom floor by morning, with no explanation. The room was locked from the inside.

EVP sessions conducted in Room 218 have yielded what investigators describe as a low male voice responding to direct questions. The responses are not always intelligible, but the pattern of response — answer following question — has been noted across multiple independent sessions by different teams.
